For too long, research about Black women’s sexuality has focused on deficits.
I’m here to change that narrative.
My work centers pleasure, equity, and Black women’s voices not just in theory, but in practice. Research should feel like a tool, not a barrier. Whether you're designing a study, turning an idea into a manuscript, or need help translating your findings into workshops that will have a community impact.
I help you do it with clarity, purpose, and care.
Over the years, I’ve published widely and collaborated with national organizations, but what matters most to me is making research feel real for the people who need it most. That’s where the real impact happens: in conversations, communities, and shared learning.

This Isn’t Just Research, It’s
Liberation Work
I’m Dr. Shemeka, a sex researcher, Black feminist scholar, and #HotGirlScience practitioner who believes research should serve the people it’s about.
When I entered the sex research world, I didn’t see work that reflected the realities of Black women I knew. Our stories were either missing or mishandled. So I started doing it differently. Research that centers care. Research that centers joy. Research that’s not just about us, but created for us and with us.
I’ve led nationally funded studies, published in top journals, and earned awards along the way, but what matters most is how the work moves. It lives in workshops, on podcasts, in community spaces, and in conversations. The goal isn’t just publication. Its impact extends beyond the page.
